Network Management a brief introduction
Network management has been very crucial technology due to the multivendor, multi-tenant and multi-serivice environment.Today, all the good telecom service provider, Internet service providers, and banks need to have very good management system to provide the better user experience and quality of service. Proper network management system ensures very less mean time to repair the service in case of failures in the network there by improving overall customer experience.
This article makes you understand about the management system in very layman terms.
1. What is network management system?
Network management system(NMS) is a combination of software and hardware used to administer and monitor the computer networks devices and networked applications.Unlike, element management system, NMS is concerned about how the network elements are tied up together in the environment, and the impacts one makes to the other.Today there are so many vendors which develop NMS software depending up on the type of network devices, network technologies and services they want to provide.
2. When do we need to have network management system?
Well, we need to have NMS when the network is extensively big to operate, the network runs for critical services, network is complex & multivendor, network covers quite a good number of customers, network isn't so simple &reliable
3. How does a Network management system work?
Network management system is normally operated from the remote locations.A network management system manages the nodes which are distributed across the wide geography. The devices which are to be managed by the network management system(NMS) has to be added in the NMS system. There are various ways of protocol which facilitates the uninterrupted communication between the NMS and the devices which are to be monitored. Few of the famous protocols being used in the today's industries are SNMP, CORBA,TL1,HTTP, RMI etc. However, SNMP is the most common form of the protocol being used in the industry by most of the telecom/network vendors. Here, in this article i'm going to explain how the SNMP works in a NMS or EMS. Stay tuned for that....
